melanie & david’s gorgeous la home

Last year I did a post about vase collections and featured the stunning vintage glass collection from Melanie. Melanie’s beautiful home in Los Angeles is now featured at Apartment Therapy as she made it to the finals of the Apartment Therapy fall colors contest.

Melanie and her husband David are both architects. As this is their first home, they were very excited to experiment with different colors throughout the house. They selected the colors based on the mood in the room and the natural light that existed.

Melanie’s inspiration for her vintage glass collection came from the Parker Hotel in Palm Spring which is decorated by Jonathan Adler. I had lunch at the Parker Hotel last year and remember seeing these Jonathan Alder placemats (image above) there as well.

Also the exterior of the house is beautiful. I love the grass plants in the garden!

Congratulations Melanie with your gorgeous home and making it to the finals of the Apartment Therapy contest!

This beautiful house is located in my hometown The Hague in The Netherlands.

I love the kitchen! We have made similar choices for our kitchen in our new house.
The owner is

Swedish which explains the Scandinavian style of decoration. That means lots of white!

The bedroom is serene and cosy.

more bamboo

There are a lot of bamboo products on the market these days. As said in yesterday’s post bamboo is a great alternative to wood as it grows very quickly and is more eco friendly than timber. The beautiful lights in the image above are made from bamboo by Propellor Design.

Clockwise:veneerware plates and cutlery from Branch, bamboo bowl from dandi, bamboo plates from re:modern, sushi table from Legnoart, bamboo Spring chair from Modern Bamboo, bamboo nestings baskets from re:modern.
,
The Becca stool (above) from Modern Bamboo is 100% made from bamboo. The stool is available from Design Public in various colours (natural, ebony and cherry).

The case of Asus’ Ecobook (above) is covered in bamboo. And of the plastic used for this laptop is labeled and recyclable; it is lined with cardboard; there are no paints, sprays or even electroplating used on its components. Not only environmental friendly but gorgeous looking as well!

PS: if you would like to do a good deed today, please visit this website and read Matthew’s story. I know that there are lots of similar touching stories out there, this one crabbed my attention today.
