It is a gorgeous Sunday here in The Netherlands! I will be working in the garden today so not much time for relaxing for me. But this bed would make the perfect spot for a lazy afternoon. Have a wonderful Sunday!

amsterdam: restaurant de kas

One of the finest restaurants in Amsterdam is ¡®De Kas¡¯. De Kas is a large restaurant and nursery, located in a former greenhouse on the outskirts of Amsterdam. Their menu is about simplicity and flavor, using only the best organic ingredients. The restaurant grows most of their own vegetables and herbs in their organic garden, which is in Ilpendam (a small village north of Amsterdam not far from where I live). Dutch designer Piet Boon is responsible for the interior of the restaurant.

Chef and owner Gert Jan Hagememan: a€ A kitchen surrounded by fertile soil where vegetables and herbs thrive a€| Where daylight shines in from all sides and where the chefs are free to express their creativity daily using the best the season has to offer. It seems an obvious concept, but I spent twenty years surrounded by white tiles under fluorescent lighting before I came up with it.a€

If you are in Amsterdam and you like fine food then De Kas is definitely worth checking out!

Another peek into our new house: above our wooden dining table (made from recycled wood that is over 100 years old) we have two Shady Tree ceiling lamps from Dutch designer Nicolette Brunklaus. This beautiful lamp, which is available from online shop POAA, has a large translucent shade that is white on the outside. When the light is turned on a forest scene printed on the inside is revealed.

temporary attic abode

This temporary loft is situated in an old factory. While transforming the ground floor and first floor into a gallery and home, the owners took refuge in the attic.

Although this was only a temporary solution, they decorated the top floor in a nice and clever way. Using found materials like shopping carts and industrial lockers, they transformed the space into an innovative live/work home. Their two kids get to live every child¡¯s dream: they sleep in a tent!
